Believe in Your Self
"It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are".
E E Cummings
Being a teenager is the most exciting, challenging, strange and daunting time all rolled into one big outbreak of acne and self consciousness!
Throw in the disrupted schooling and socialising caused by the world pandemic and you've got a rudderless boat drifting in a rough sea with no land in sight.
I had the privilege of trialing this 8 session program with a group of four 14-15 year old girls early last year before the lockdowns kicked in. We ran it once a week, after school at my home. It was challenging and fun for all of us! There was much laughter and a few tears (more from me than them!), what stood out for me most was the courage the girls showed when doing some of the exercises - which do not have to be shared - what came out was that they all felt the same (or similar) but did not discuss how they felt with others!
The purpose of this program is to help teenagers realise their inner power, for them to experience how they can make things happen, how they can control their emotions to create a healthy outcome; to help them see they are not the only one feeling or thinking in this way and ultimately for them to believe in themselves.
We have conversations, discussions and do some practical exercises around the acronym E.N.O.U.G.H
Emotions - we all have them!
Normal - what exactly is that?
Others - comparing yourself dilutes your true essence
Unique - there is only one YOU
Good enough - exactly as you are
Happiness - is an inside job!
